GAMRUPA in partnership with YOUNG PEOPLE WITHOUT BORDERS, VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE ( VDC) and THE ENTIERE COMMUNITY OF SIFOE wanted to embark on the RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SIFOE COMMUNITY MARKET.
The existing market structure is old, dilapidated and unsafe for people to operate around the premises. Parts of some pillars are giving way to age and Needs complete demolition and reconstruction.
The women of Sifoe through Gamrupa have so far put together FIFTY TWO THOUSAND AND SIX HUNDRED DALASIS ONLY ( D 52,600.00 ).
In view of this, WE are seeking for your kind SUPPORT in any form for the timely accomplishment of this this noble task. Disasters can be prevented if we help and at a time when it's most needed.
For years, upon traveling to Gambia, we take along seeds for various projects on behalf of Gamrupa Europe as well as for families with a limited stretch of land without means of acquiring seeds, The sharing of seeds is (not yet) spread within the surroundings but this changes gradually.
Since 2009 the Foundation Gamrupa Europe obtains seeds, especially from Prof. Dr. Willem van Cotthem and starting from 2012 on behalf of the people, who continued seeds for nourishment. At this occasion our Chairman, Ellen Meulenveld, takes on the challenge and drives with an obtained Ford Transit to Gambia with the convoy of the Foundation Go for Africa under the direction of Jan Huizinga. A great deal of seeds, collected by an incredible number of people from all over the world, are taken along, often by washing and drying their proper vegetables and fruits, then sent to seeds for nourishment. Even shops and wholesale participate by passing their overabundance to seed for nourishment.
The Foundation Gamrupa Europe obtains some of this to take along and to spend on people, who can grow their own food, sometimes within the vicinity of their poor hut or house, sometimes within the more voluminous women’s garden in the village. Sometimes also nearby the schools with their proper garden.
At Sifoe (Gambia) apart from different lower baisc schools, an Upper Basic School, stately built, arrived. Immediately, a senior secondary school was constructed in addition, so that schooling could take place between grade 1 till grade 12 within village boundaries. Quite a progress, because under these circumstances young people need not move for their basic, secondary or higher education toward Brikama or Serrakunda.
It all too soon appeared that either quite a lot of young people were not qualified for an advanced theoretical training or parents or others were unable to assemble tuition. Many of them left Sifoe in order to test their luck elsewhere. A solution to offer these young people a future within their own country imposed itself. A schooling, in order to suggest to them their proper revenue is just one possibility.
