The government in The Gambia, in its programs, does much to create employment, improve education, and provide health services. The economy is growing by 3% to 5% annually despite the world recession and the fact that The Gambia has no natural resources and is too small to produce export products on a large scale. However, the per capita income for The Gambia is still below the poverty line and is about 6% of the per capita income in Europe, and with limited resources available for the government real improvement is not yet in sight. Improvement in water supply, infrastructure, and health are still largely dependent on foreign donors. Foundation Gamrupa Europe participates in a number of small scale projects that in a modest way contribute to the development of the community, the economy, and the infrastructure of Sifoe and surroundings.
